Map Every CMMC Level 2 Requirement to its NIST 800-53 control

The problem it solves

If you lean on a FedRAMP cloud service provider to meet part of your CMMC Level 2 obligations, you have a translation problem. NIST SP 800-171 Rev 2 still points to 800-53 Rev 4 in Appendix D. Your provider's Customer Responsibility Matrix (CRM) is written against 800-53 Rev 5, because that is what FedRAMP is built on. To claim inheritance correctly, someone has to reconcile those two documents by hand.

We built that bridge. As an authorized C3PAO, we map all 110 CMMC / 800-171 Rev 2 requirements to their current 800-53 Rev 5 controls, so your assessment and the provider's CRM reference the same controls.

Why the changes matter

Those 12 shifts are where inheritance quietly breaks. SC-19 (Voice over IP) was withdrawn outright in Rev 5. Clock synchronization moved families entirely, from AU-8(1) to SC-45(1). Compare a Rev 4 citation against a Rev 5 CRM without catching those moves, and you can mark a requirement inherited when it isn't. That's the kind of gap an assessor finds.
